Luang Prabang - Laos

L.P is an historic ancient town on the banks of the Mekong River in Laos. Lots of old restored buildings built by the French turned into hotels, guest houses, and restaurants & bars. One thing you notice when you are there is how quiet it is. Don't go there for night life as all businesses have to close at 11:30 p.m. Most hotels will lock their doors at mid-night so you had better be back to your room!

Lots of Temples and Monks as it is a large and important Buddhist center. A main tourist attraction is to get up at 5:30 a.m. and "feed the monks"! Hundreds of monks walk the streets collecting their food for the day. Local ladies are up early cooking rice and setting up "shop" on the streets providing food and straw mats to kneel on while giving the monks their "daily bread".......... Also got up at 5:30 a.m. to feed the Monks.

One day took a trip up the Mekong River to visit caves on the river that have thousands of Buddha Statues in them. The boat we took used old car seats for the boat seats! A great idea as really comfortable as total trip about 4 hours.

O.k. here goes - lots of pics....

Whenever a Buddha statue becomes too old or damage to venerate in a wat, these buddhas are not thrown away or destroyed; these are sent to these caves – the Buddha Caves. Inside, just out of the sunlight and stretching back into the darkness, are thousands of Buddha statues of every size and material.

Black barrel is used to make Rice Whiskey by Hill Tribes. It is about 15% alcohol. The alcohol runs down the pipe through a cloth filter and then into the clay pot.
