Local Fresh Market

A 4 minute walk from the condo is a nice small fresh market. The prices are about 1/4 of the grocery store prices! On the way out of the market - "Chicken" to take home for lunch......

Ken & Charlie Explore Northern Thailand!!

We left Chiang Mai and headed for Mae Hong Son a fairly large town in N.W. Thailand. We had to head S.W. in order to get N.W. as we had to go around and through a large mountain range. Doi Inthanon is over 8,500 ft. high. Here are pics of views along the way. Shots of the hotel we stayed in in Mae Hong Son and the park area. The "Hot Springs" in the area are too hot for soaking in. some are all most 195*. The signs around the springs were interesting and I still have not figured out what some of them mean??? Sites around the area - Sleeping Buddha and cave with stream and fish living inside. Our next stop was the "backpacking village of Pai, which is pronounced Bye!! Lots of neat shops and restaurants to explore. We stayed at the "Quarter" a small botique hotel. From here we visited the waterfalls and temples in the area. "SOMETHING FISHY"

Something fishy - My 1st Thai business venture or should I say, "ADVENTURE"? We left Chiang Mai early Friday morning and headed for Chiang Rai (3 hours). First stop was the outdoor market in Chiang Mai. Lots of "everything" at great prices - seafood of all description, chicken, pork, and lots of fruit some of which I have NO idea what they are!! First pic is of tables full of cut up chicken. hope the health inspector doesn't come around! The red fuzzy fruit stacked up is a Rambutan! Lychee Fruit is in season and they are great just off the tree... The market is huge with lots of Sois (side streets) to explore... On the way to Chiang Rai we stopped and bought mushrooms from an old lady from the local "Hill Tribes". 75 Baht or $2.20 we bought 8 plates of her mushrooms. Lots of mushrooms used in Thai cooking. Hmong Village

About 1 hour drive up Doi Suthep (5,100 ft high) is a Hmong Hill Tribe Village. The road up to one of the Queen's Summer palaces is not too bad. But once you past the the palace the road gets pretty narrow, especially on the way to the camp site. Sign saying "2 lane road' must of had motorbikes in mind, as NO WAY that 2 cars could pass. The only 2 lanes I saw were going around this tree! It was a nice sunny morning in the "city" but soon drove into the clouds about 1/2 way up the mountain. Clouds at top of mountain and the camp grounds... The local "bus stop" outside the village. The village is mainly a market for tourists. Picture of entrance to the Mall.... Kids in the village. Tops are favorite toys for the kids! Who needs video games? Street in the market - local dress - The Hmong's are noted for their elaborate costumes! It takes weeks to complete just one outfit.
