Udon Thani 388 miles Chiang Mai to Udon March 16 - 19 2018, flew to Udon Thani - flight time a little over an hour.... Udon is home to one of the world’s earliest bronze-age civilizations, at Ban Chiang. Archaeological evidence – earthenware pottery and bronze fragments – unearthed here suggest that the prehistoric settlements existed between 2100BC and 200AD. Other ancient structures and artifacts are also found inside Phu Phra Baht Historical Park. Here, rising amidst a vast sandstone mountain are peculiar rock formations, as well as dinosaur foot prints, cave paintings and Buddhist structures. Prehistoric Cave Paintings Erosion and...
We left Chiang Mai and headed for Mae Hong Son a fairly large town in N.W. Thailand. We had to head S.W. in order to get N.W. as we had to go around and through a large mountain range. Doi Inthanon is over 8,500 ft. high. Here are pics of views along the way. Shots of the hotel we stayed in in Mae Hong Son and the park area. The "Hot Springs" in the area are too hot for soaking in. some are all most 195*. The signs around the springs were interesting and I still have not figured out what some of them mean??? Sites around the area - Sleeping Buddha and cave with stream and fish living inside. Our next stop was the "backpacking village of Pai, which is pronounced Bye!! Lots of neat shops and restaurants to explore. We stayed at the "Quarter" a small botique hotel. From here we visited the waterfalls and temples in the area. Stay tuned for next post as we make our way to Burma and Laos!! Well, at least Charlie got into Burma but I could not go as it would have scr...
Made it to the Immigration office today and everyone there was very nice! I thought I was going to get my "retirement" visa but instead ended up getting a 90 day extension on my tourist visa. It seems you have to get the extension before you apply for the "retirement" visa.... I was in and out of Immigration in less then an hour and then walked 5 minutes to the Airport Mall. Very modern, large, 5 story mall! Here are pics of the "Food Court", over 25 little food stalls plus on the 5Th floor another 15 -20 sit down restaurants. Lunch was a "Pork Cheeseburger!!! For $3.00 I got a salad, rice, soup, hot tea, and the pork cheeseburger. Also a photo of the red lanterns in the center of the mall. Friday I think I will be going to Chiang Rai about 3 hours by car, so if I don't forget my camera, I should have a lot of good pics. There is also a shot of the "Spirit House" outside the Mall. This is to appease the spirits that lived on and in the p...
