Charlie Arrived!!

Charlie is visiting for 3 weeks so have been doing a lot of exploring and not much blogging. So far we have been to the Warowot Day Market, walked the "old city" of Chiang Mai, took a 3 day trip to Mae Hong Son and then on up to Pai!! Lots of winding mountain roads, smoke from the forest fires, and shopping in the night markets. Tomorrow we leave for Chiang Rai and the Burma and Laos borders - the famous "Golden Triangle"...... Here are a few pics from the trip and will post more later.

We left Chiang Mai and headed for Mae Hong Son a fairly large town in N.W. Thailand. We had to head S.W. in order to get N.W. as we had to go around and through a large mountain range. Doi Inthanon is over 8,500 ft. high. Here are pics of views along the way. Shots of the hotel we stayed in in Mae Hong Son and the park area. The "Hot Springs" in the area are too hot for soaking in. some are all most 195*. The signs around the springs were interesting and I still have not figured out what some of them mean??? Sites around the area - Sleeping Buddha and cave with stream and fish living inside. Our next stop was the "backpacking village of Pai, which is pronounced Bye!! Lots of neat shops and restaurants to explore. We stayed at the "Quarter" a small botique hotel. From here we visited the waterfalls and temples in the area. Archaeological evidence – earthenware pottery and bronze fragments – unearthed here suggest that the prehistoric settlements existed between 2100BC and 200AD.
