CHIANG DAO CAVES

Image
Chiang Dao Caves are about an 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai. The road there is worth the trip as it goes through the mountains and a scenic jungle valley! Doi (mountain in Thai)Chiang Dao is the 3rd tallest mountain in Thailand. Did not get to see it as very cloudy the day we went. The cave complex is supposed to extend more than twelve kilometres into the mountain ... Just outside the main entrance is a crystal clear pool containing a lot of very large fish that are extremely well fed ... The water comes directly from the mountain. Pay the ten baht (3o cents) admittance fee and ascend the steps to the cave itself. The tour follows a rough oval and will have you crawling through small gaps deep in the mountain and following along man made pavements. You go up steps, down steps and the entire time marvel at the spectacle around you.

San Kamphaeng Hot Spring

San Kamphaeng Hot Spring , Chiang Mai is situated about 23 kilometers away from San Kamphaeng district and about 36 kilometers from the city. The spring is located in the scenic surrounding of the spectacular hills and in the shelter of the large and shady trees. The water at San Kamphaeng Hot Spring, Chiang Mai contains high sulphur content and it cures many diseases and improves blood circulation. The temperature of water at San Kamphaeng Hot Spring, Chiang Mai is around hundred degrees centigrade. The water comes from a deep source many attempts have been made to harness this energy but all had been in vain. Eggs can be boiled in the hot springs - 20 Baht for 4 eggs - which impart an unusual, slightly sulphurous taste to the eggs, which surprisingly is not unpleasant. There are several good Thai restaurants where you can get a good lunch for $2.00. The pic is of papaya salad (very spicy), Northern Thai Sausage, BBQ Chicken and rice!
